Hey you….you ignorant, self-indulgent, ill-advised unionized worker….listen up.

June 24th, 2009

I absolutely despise unions and I have never been anything short of vocal about this over the years.

I grew up in a city where unionized workers outnumbered the non-unionized workers by a ridiculous margin, having the massive beast of General Motors inhabiting a huge portion of the city. And let me tell you, I have certainly had my fair share of battles with those brainwashed GM robots over the years. There’s an irony here when you consider most of them are now unemployed….thanks to their big brother union leading them astray into thinking their any-monkey-can-do-it jobs were worth $80,000+ a year…PLUS benefits, PLUS vacation, PLUS PLUS PLUS….

Unfortunately, when the cost of making the car (due to employee salaries and benefits) exceeds the price they can get for it, you’ve got a serious problem on your hands. Mix into that the fact that North American built cars are complete crap compared to the competition, and you can’t help but realize why GM and Chrysler have sunk.

Yes, many years ago unions had a place in society. The blue-collar, lower-class worker needed to be protected from the almighty powerful management that would have screwed him over in a heartbeat. But times have changed, and we now have employee protection laws that guarantee equality and protection for all. Not to mention a fist full of lawyers that are frothing at the mouth to take your wrongful dismissal case to court.

So, it makes me seriously wonder why the fucking hell we still have unions, and why these employees are so beyond the scope of reality in their thinking that they actually believe 18 sick days per year isn’t enough. Compounding that belief is the direct contradiction of wanting to bank those sick days when they’re not used.

Well, here’s my message to CUPE 416 and all you Toronto city workers that fall under their umbrella: Fuck. You.

I don’t care about your reasons for whining. I don’t care about the garbage piling up. I don’t care about summer camps closing (although, you’re real charmers for targeting children). I don’t care about any of it, except this one infuriating point: You have given ZERO thought to the reality that we are in a recession. Tens of thousands of hard-working, educated people have lost their jobs as a result of the economy, all of whom are now struggling to make ends meet, and have mouths to feed and mortgages to pay. These people are filling the unemployment offices, the food banks, and social assistance programs for help.

And you? You decide that your ridiculous, misappropriated 18 sick days per year is not enough. You want to bank them. You want to be paid for them.

Are you fucking kidding me?

Do you live in the real world?

You should be ashamed of yourselves.

Every single last one of you should be fired on the spot and replaced by real working people who have lost their jobs in this recession and understand what defines “reality”. People who would sell their souls to the devil to be back in the workforce right now, just to take care of their families, their bills and make every effort to hold onto what is theirs. These are the people living in the real world CUPE 416. These are the people that could, would and should be doing YOUR jobs.

The public and the government need to come together and move to abolishing all unions. They do not serve anyone any good, period. And they are going to sink you like they did the auto industry.

With all of this said, I hope to iPhone Jesus that Miller doesn’t bend for you assholes. The rest of us should hold our ground. Force you out. Show you what the real world is like. We pay your salaries, and based on that alone, we should have the right to kick your SORRY asses to the curb with the rest of the garbage.

Hopefully then it will get picked up.
